St. Patrick's Day

It was all things green this St. Patrick's Day. The boy's class had learned about this special day and he was captivated by one of the books his teacher had read. It was about two kids trying to catch themselves a leprechaun. They built traps, caught one and thought they would find his gold but the leprechaun tricked them. There was more to the story and it was really cute. The boy wanted to build his own trap. It was the same day we headed camping so we decided to hunt the trail for one. We did keep hearing noises in the woods but we couldn't spot one. When we headed back to camp though, we found some yummy leprechaun chocolate gold that must have been left behind when he heard us coming. It was a fun adventure and the boy just loved it.

Green eggs, green butter on toast and green milk!

Monster Trucks

The monster trucks came into town and the boy and the dad headed to the civic center to watch the show. The boy was excited to see the trucks in action. He has been wanting to go and they finally came here. I think the boy looks super cute in his "earmuffs". They came in handy though as the dad said that it was really loud when the engines revved up. They had a great time though and it was some much needed father and son time.

Camping-Blackwater River State Park

We finally went camping for real during the boy's spring break. I say for real because if you look back at another post, we did some backyard camping in the past. The campground we headed to was about 40 minutes from our house. Far enough to say it was really camping but close enough to home in case we decided to pack it in early. It was a two night adventure but I know we all agree that we could have stayed a few days more. We had so much FUN! I wasn't quite sure how I would feel about it since I really haven't camped since junior high. We can't wait to do it again.

The first night was just the three of us. We had a fun and easy time setting up our campsite and took off for a short hike through the woods. It was a good time except the "warning, alligators" signs made me a little nervous. We didn't see one at all though and now I believe it was just posted since Florida is gator country. We grilled cheeseburgers that night and went for a bike ride around the campground. The boy is really good on his bike. He can get off and on all by himself now.

Sleeping in the tent that night brought its own interesting sounds with it. I forgot how loud the woods can be at night when you are trying to sleep. Combine that with the sounds of people tossing and turning on air mattresses and you've got yourself one noisy campsite. It was fun though and the temperature at night was about 50 so a little chilly in the tent but bearable.

The next day we cooked breakfast, ate and did a little fishing. No luck fishing though but we had fun. As we were heading out on a bike ride our friends joined us. The boy's teacher and her family have become great friends to us and we were so glad that they decided to join us for our second night. We helped them set up camp and then we all headed to the river. It was at least 80 degrees and cloudless so we all decided to swim in the river. It was chilly at first but very refreshing. I didn't think I would already be swimming mid March since last year was still cold at this time. The rest of our day was filled with bike rides, a long hike and some fun just hanging out doing whatever.

All in all, it was a great time. So much so that we are all going camping together again Memorial Day weekend. This time we are heading a few hours away to St. Andrew's State Park in Panama City. It sits right on the ocean and is sure to be a fun time!!

100 Days of School!

Celebrating the 100th day of school is a big deal around here. I don't ever remember doing it so it was all new to me. The kids did a bunch of crafts and there was even a parade. The boy wore a t-shirt with 100 stickers on it and brought in a collection of 100 matchbox cars.

Teddy Bear Picnic

The boy's class held a teddy bear picnic a while back. All the kids were asked to bring their teddys and tell a story about them. It was lots of fun and we all ate lunch in the classroom that day. The kids did a fun snack (pictured below) and there were quite a few silly stories involving some ninja bears. The boy wanted me to have a teddy to so he brought in two.

My Valentine Dates!

The dad was gone for a week to AZ for work. The week just happened to be the week that Valentine's Day fell on. The boy and I decided to go out with some friends for dinner. The boy was excited to eat dinner with some lovely ladies, pictured below. Two other friends joined us but I didn't get their picture. We had fun though and the boy is the BEST DATE EVER!
